Handwriting Spell Checker is a Chrome Extension built for primary school teachers of marathi language to check spelling and grammar in handwritten student work submitted via Google Classroom. The extension is developed and maintained as an independent product.
The extension requests access to the following Google services:
Student handwriting images are sent to the Anthropic Claude AI API solely for the purpose of optical character recognition (OCR) and spell checking. We handle student data as follows:
The extension stores the following in your Chrome browser's sync storage:
This data never leaves your Chrome profile except to sync across your own signed-in Chrome devices.
If you configure a Google Sheet as a School Dictionary, the extension writes correction history (wrong word, correct word, error type, teacher verdict, and optional teacher note) to that Sheet. This Sheet is owned and controlled entirely by you. We do not have access to it.
If your school uses a license key, usage counts (number of checks performed per month) are recorded on our backend server to enforce monthly limits. No student data, images, or personal information are transmitted as part of usage logging — only the license key and check count.
We do not sell, rent, or share any personal data with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes. Data is shared only with:
We do not retain student images or spell check results. Usage logs on our server retain only license key and monthly count, which are reset each month. You can request deletion of any data associated with your license key by contacting us.
This extension is used by teachers, not directly by students. Student handwriting images are processed but not stored, and no student accounts or profiles are created. We comply with applicable student data privacy laws including India's DPDP Act 2023.
All data transmissions use HTTPS encryption. API keys and license keys are stored in Chrome's encrypted sync storage. We follow security best practices including not logging sensitive data and using short-lived authentication tokens.
As a teacher using this extension, you have the right to:
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The updated date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
